Steel Named Nebraska State Court Administrator

Corey SteelThe Nebraska Supreme Court announces the appointment of Corey R. Steel of Hickman, Nebraska, as State Court Administrator.

Steel has been serving in the capacity of Deputy Probation Administrator for Juvenile Services since July 1, 2013. He played an active role in providing information to the Legislature regarding juvenile justice reform.

Steel also served as Juvenile Justice Specialist for the Office of Probation Administration. Throughout his employment, Steel has been heavily engaged in the transformation of Probation’s Juvenile Justice System. Serving in a leadership capacity, he was involved in the Juvenile Detention Alternative Initiative (JDAI), the Cross-Over Youth Practice Model, and the Juvenile Information Sharing Project.

Steel served as Acting Chief Probation Officer in Omaha’s juvenile probation office and also in Beatrice. Before joining the Office of Probation Administration, he was Lancaster County Human Services Juvenile Justice Coordinator. Corey began his probation career as a drug technician in May 1998 and was appointed Juvenile Probation Officer in Lincoln in September 1998.

Steel was named the Judicial Branch’s “Employee of the Year” for 2013.

In addition to holding a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Nebraska – Kearney and a Master’s in Business Management from Doane College, Corey also holds a certification from the Georgetown University Public Policy Institute in Juvenile Justice and Child Welfare and serves as an adjunct professor for Southeast Community College teaching Juvenile Justice, Criminal Justice, and Sociology.
