The Custer Campus Board of Directors and Custer Economic Development Corporation held a groundbreaking ceremony on the site of the seven acre Custer Campus in Broken Bow.  Judicial Branch officials in attendance were:  Chief Justice Mike Heavican, State Court Administrator Corey Steel and former State Court Administrator Janice Walker.

The center will include two courtrooms for county and district court, a hearing room and offices for the county attorney, probation officer, court clerks and support staff.

The vision of Custer Campus, according to co-president of the Custer Campus Board of Directors Jerry Adams is to develop a judicial facility that will serve the needs of Custer County and all of central Nebraska for years to come.

According to a report on KNOP-TV news, Custer County Economic Development Coordinator Melissa Garcia said, “It’s time. Our population is aging, and security and technology is changing. With the courthouse on the third floor we just felt there was something we could do better and do more to really support the needs of those residents in Custer County and the surrounding area."

The report also quoted Chief Justice Heavican saying, "We are adding new technology all of the time. Filing in court and access to court records can be done electronically so this facility will fit right into that 21st Century concept."
