A Chief Deputy Probation Officer is selected by the Chief Probation Officer and is appointed to the position solely at the discretion of the Probation Administrator upon the advice and recommendation of the Chief Probation Officer. This position serves at the pleasure of the Chief Probation Officer. This position has oversight of general probation officer duties and responsibilities. The position may entail specifically assigned administrative tasks tailored to fit the needs of a particular district and/or the needs of the Chief Probation Officer.
Essential job functions include, but are not limited to, monitoring district and state policies, procedures, and protocols, engaging in frequent consultation with the Chief Probation Officer regarding managerial issues, acting as the Chief Probation Officer’s liaison, and temporarily assuming responsibility for the management of the district during the absence of the Chief Probation Officer; conferring with and counsel staff to exchange information and/or explain district policies, procedures, and guidelines, and offer solutions to work-related problems; train staff within a district or satellite office in practices, policies and procedures associated with supervision and investigation of offenders, and monitor their compliance with System standards.
Basic qualifications for consideration are the same as those for a Probation Officer which include a Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or related fields.
The ability to speak Spanish is desired but not required. A State of Nebraska application for employment and resume must be received by the closing date/time.
