Judge of the County Court, 9th Judicial District, Philip (Mac) M. Martin, Jr., is retiring January 31, 2017. Judge Martin is a former President of the Nebraska County Judges Association and has served on numerous judicial committees throughout his career. He mentored new judges from across the state through the County Judges Education Committee for several years, training many of the judges who are on the bench today. Martin is a Nebraska State Bar Foundation Fellow, an organization that selects members based on integrity, character, and dedication to improving the administration of justice. In his letter to the Governor, Martin wrote, “It has been my distinct privilege and honor to serve the people of the 9th District and the State of Nebraska for the past 25 years.” Judge Martin has served the citizens of Hall and Buffalo counties (9th Judicial District) from 1991 to his 2017 retirement. After taking the bench, Judge Martin was retained in his position by area voters, most recently in 2012. The first step in replacing Judge Martin will be for the Judicial Resources Commission to call a meeting to determine whether or not, based on judicial workload statistics, his retirement creates a judicial vacancy on the district court for the Ninth Judicial District.
