Chief Justice Mike Heavican will give his 9th annual State of the Judiciary address to the Legislature at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 21, 2016, in the Legislative Chamber. NET Television will air the speech on NET2 as part of its regular legislative coverage which can be viewed online at NET's Web site: ww.netnebraska.org/publicmedia/capitol.html (link will appear as: Nebraska: Legislative Session). Before the end of the month, the State of the Judiciary will be archived and available through the Nebraska Judicial Branch website. The State of the Judiciary address is given by the Chief Justice at the invitation of the Speaker of the Legislature, Senator Galen Hadley. Since 2008 this address has become the judiciary’s opportunity to highlight Judicial Branch priorities for the upcoming year and provide relevant information directly to lawmakers. Heavican will provide an overview of the activities of the judicial branch of government including projects involving the state’s 145 judges and over 1,200 non-judicial employees in courthouses and probation offices across the state.
