Lexington Law Day Recognition Luncheon Honors Civic Engagement of Students

Civic engagement of area youth and participation in high school law-related education formed the basis for lawyers in Lexington to join together in celebration of Law Day 2017. Lexington High School student groups recognized by area lawyers included:

  • Lexington High School Alternative Education Students for their volunteer work throughout the community
  • Members of the Lexington High School Mock Trial team
  • Lexington’s National History Day Team for their presentation of “Standing for Native American Rights”

Each May, the Nebraska Judicial Branch and the Nebraska State Bar Foundation partner to host a celebratory Law Day luncheon in a Nebraska community with the local bar association. In addition to enhancing and encouraging regional Law Day celebrations, the local celebrations also have the purpose of honoring civic-minded students through recognition of their unique projects.

Chief Justice Mike Heavican was the keynote speaker for the event. Heavican was joined by Justice John Wright; Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals, Frankie Moore; Nebraska State Bar Foundation Past President Stan Goodwin; and, local bar Dawson County Bar Association President, Brennon Malcom, who served as master of ceremonies.
