AMENDED RELEASE

LINCOLN -- According to Supreme Court Justice William B. Cassel, the Judicial Nominating Commission for the County Court in the Ninth Judicial District (consisting of Hall and Buffalo Counties) will hold a public hearing at the Hall County Courthouse, District Courtroom #2, 111 West First Street, Grand Island, Nebraska, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 7, 2023.  The purpose of the hearing will be to receive information on the qualifications of candidates to fill the vacancy created by amendments to Neb. Rev. Stat. § 24-503 (Laws 2023, LB 799) establishing a fifth county court judge, which office will become effective three calendar months after the adjournment of the 108th Legislature, First Session.  The primary place of office for the judicial vacancy is Grand Island, Hall County, Nebraska.   

Individuals interested in applying for the vacancy can obtain a Judicial Vacancy Application package from the Nebraska Judicial Branch Web site at https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/administration/attorney-services-division/judicial-vacancy/application.  Completed applications may be submitted electronically or by hard copy and must be returned no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 16, 2023.   

Any member of the public wishing to present testimony for the commission’s consideration may do so one of two ways:

  1. Written testimony provided in advance:  Those wishing to present written testimony or other pertinent information may do so by mailing the information to the Commission Chair no later than June 30, 2023, at the following address: Justice Cassel, Nebraska Supreme Court, PO Box 98910, Lincoln, NE 68509 or email it to ashley.jenkins@nebraska.gov.    
  2. Oral testimony offered during the hearing:  Those wishing to present oral testimony may do so by attending the public hearing in District Courtroom #2 of the Hall County Courthouse, Grand Island, Nebraska.
