New Language for Individuals Requesting Records “Not Found”

The language that appears on the JUSTICE system screen when cases are not found has been updated. New language is as follows:

Nebraska’s online access to the JUSTICE system includes a complete, current listing of cases publicly available in the court system. However, case information may not be available because of state law, court records retention schedules, or a Supreme Court Rule.  For example, sealed records will not be publicly available through the online JUSTICE system.

Accordingly, those speaking to individuals at the counter are asked to modify their language to mirror the new JUSTICE System language. Court staff are asked to say:

“Our court files include a complete, current listing of cases publicly available in the court system. However, case information may not be available because of state law, court records retention schedules, or a Supreme Court Rule.  For example, sealed records are not publicly available through this office or online through our court computer system.”

If the person at the counter is someone who would like a copy of their own sealed record, please refer them to Defendant's Request to Release Sealed Record: https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/sites/default/files/DC-1-12.pdf or to the Self-Help page:https://supremecourt.nebraska.gov/self-help/court-records/obtaining-copy-your-court-record-has-been-sealed
